Classic Amiga Games Now Available for BlackBerry PlayBook

SEATTLE, Washington, USA. — September 26, 2012 — Amiga, Inc. today announced the immediate availability of classic Amiga games for the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet and upcoming BlackBerry 10 smartphone.

Amiga is pleased to announce the initial batch release of authentic classic Amiga games from the late eighties and early nineties, selected and repackaged for the BlackBerry platform. Amiga looks forward to continuing working with publishers and developers to bring many more original Amiga games to BlackBerry device owners. “RIM continues to extend the depth and breadth of gaming titles on the BlackBerry PlayBook and BB10 platform. We’re excited that legendary Amiga first entered the mobile space on our platform and it’s with great anticipation we await a long list of classic games many of us grew up with!” said Anders Jeppsson, Director, BlackBerry Gaming, Research In Motion.

“In partnership with Amiga, we are excited to announce the re-release of our chart-topping early games”, said Debbie Bestwick, Managing Director of Team 17. “Seeing the original versions of these Amiga games run on the BlackBerry PlayBook brought back many fond memories for us, as the tablet was passed around the Team 17 offices. We look forward to continued cooperation with Amiga to see more of our classic titles revived for fans old and new.”

The first Amiga computer shipped in 1985 and was an immediate hit with game developers and publishers. Many of today’s best known game publishers made their start on the Amiga. The high quality production of games from the likes of Team 17, Ocean, EA, Factor 5, Lucas Arts, Bitmap Brothers and Cinemaware, to name just a few, coupled with the state-of-the-art hardware made an unbeatable combination. Today Amiga, Inc. is working with these publishers to make many of these amazing games available to play once again.

Calling all classic Amiga game developers and publishers… If you hold the publishing rights to a commercial Amiga game or application, or know somebody that does, then we are seeking to get in touch with you. Amiga can bring Classic applications written for the Amiga platform to life on Blackberry devices that don’t have the same user controls on the platform. Amiga Anywhere 2’s Virtual Classic Controls fill the gaps on Blackberry devices and allow users to control games similar to the way they were controlled on Amiga computers.
